With Ciara away in Thailand it had been hoped Sandra Mollema could help out for the weekend, but unfortunately due to work commitments she had to withdraw. But big thank you to Corina Gunthor, Emi and Marius Hildebrand for stepping in to help out with the passenger duties. We had a great fun weekend and Natasha once again learnt so much on the bike and there was also a lot to see at the show including V8 motorbikes!!! Visit out video page for some go pro action on the bike.

    Wagenfeld Easter training
    Wagenfeld Easter training
The first real time out for the team in 2016 was to be the Easter Training at Wagenfeld on the Easter Saturday. Unfortunately due to illness Natasha was unable to make the trip so Gary Southgate stepped to do some laps with Ciara and check out the bike and get Ciara fit for the coming season. The bike performed well and as usual it was a great event put on by the club at Wagenfeld including the normal massive bonfire!! There were no issues with the bike and the team were happy but disappointed that Tash had not been able to make the trip, but the good news was that's she was feeling better and would be able to get over for the Teams first meeting of the season at Balkbrug on Easter Monday. Only low point was the accident for Marco Hunsrucker that required the air ambulance but we are pleased to here he is not to badly injured and will be back on the bike soon.

Balkbrug Netherlands First meeting of year
Balkbrug Netherlands First meeting of year
After being unwell for the training day at Wagenfeld, Natasha travelled out on the Easter Monday to join the rest of the team for the first round of the ONK championship for sidecars 2016. On a cold day with a very deep track Natasha was clearly still not well but with Ciara they fought hard after a good third place in their third heat they got through to the B final. In the B final despite making a good start they got filled in badly in the first corner but still fought hard to get the 6th place in B final and 10th Overall. Not the great start that had been hoped for but with Natasha's illness and the difficult conditions it was still a good result. The bike ran well and the new race van also performed well. Lets hope the rest of the season the weather is a bit warmer!

    Herxheim April training
    Herxheim April training
The team travelled out to Herxheim for the annual spring training day on the sand track at Herxheim. Unfortunately the illness Natasha has been suffering from got worse again and she was unable to travel with the team. As the team was trying some motor changes and bike changes Gary Southgate again stepped in to do a few sessions with Ciara. With Michael Muller and his Daughter Vivien as stand in mechanics for the day and with Engine tuner Joachim Kugelmann in attendance a good test was carried out for the bike and passenger. The old boy driving found it a bit hard but lesson were learnt and handlyan issue with the spark plugs was isolated on this day rather than lose points at a meeting. Big thanks to Joachim the motor was really fast and strong and bodes well for the season. No real issues with the bike apart from a broken spoke which damaged the rear mudguard but caused no other major issues. Big thanks to the Muller family for all their help on the day which was much appreciated and big thank you to the club for an excellently prepared track and well run day.

    500cc Sidecar Assoc Chelmsford
    500cc Sidecar Assoc Chelmsford
After travelling back through the night the team made it to the new track in Chelmsford just before practice. Only to find a sheared off bolt on the sidecar, which required the bike being taking apart and reassembled before Natasha and Ciara could practice. Big thanks to the help from James Brown, Chris Bartlett, Shaun Harvey and Charlie Powell for getting the bike sorted. Practice showed that the track was rather slick and bit bumpy and that the long Track motor we had in would be far to strong for this track. In the races this proved true with Natasha and Ciara struggling to stop the bike spinning up at the start, but once going the pace was very good, and they qualified well in equal 5th. This did mean they were left with the poor starts positions for the final, but despite being left on the line they fought hard to get from last to 5th and almost got 4th place on the line. All in all considering this was third meeting in three days with over 20 hours in the van the team were happy with the result! Was good to have all the family and friends for Natasha and Ciara at the meeting. It was back to work on Tuesday for Natasha and Ciara and a day of cleaning and preparation on the bike ready to go to Herxheim on Tuesday night!

    Altrip Sand Track
    Altrip Sand Track
The team travelled over to the unusual shaped sand track at Altrip for the annual meeting held there on a Bank Holiday in that part of Germany. After several issues on the journey out the team arrived just in time to get set up for the early practice. Training went well and then Natasha and Ciara had to race a qualifying race to get into the top 6 teams to race in the actual meeting. After an brilliant start they led for two of the three laps before being pushed out by Raphael Sn Milan and benedict Zapf which let Maun Maeir and Benjamin Maier through as well. They still qualified for the actual meeting, and felt good for the actual meeting. There was then a long break before racing started in which time the weather changed from hot to very very hot and the nature of the track changed dramatically! For the first race the team were on the outside gate at the start and made a brilliant gate and led the race out of turn one, unfortunately the race was stopped for and incident on the start line between the San Milan team and Hubsch team. In the restart Tash and Ciara did not make such a good start and then got in the thick dust behind the other teams. They fought hard but could not see to make progress back through the field. They finished in 6th, the dust got worse throughout the meeting and Natasha and Ciara struggled of the start but fought hard for to more 5th in the races. This was against some good teams who were more at home on this type of track. Despite the disappointment in their result it was felt an lot had been learned and it was also great to ride in front of such a big crowd. It is hoped that next year we can return and get a better result.

    Battle of Britain, Frittenden
    Battle of Britain, Frittenden
The team were part of the eight 500cc sidecar entered for the Battle Britain. The track was very grippy and wet after rain in the week but the race day was warm and dry. In their first race Tash and Ciara were involved in a good four way battle for the top places with Simon Beard/Ant Goodwin, Mitch Godden/Paul Smith, Josh Goodwin/Scott Goodwin, despite ending up fourth they could been in any of the first four places. In the round robin format they missed the next race, but in the third leg the second ride for the team they led the race into the first corner before be passing by the Beard/Goodwin combination in a very close first corner, they then battled the whole race wit the Goodwin/Goddwin team and on the last corner seemed to have got past them back into second, when they hit the hole which had developed coming out of the corner. the left foot of Natasha came off the footrest and went under the bike. Although they finished the race in third, Tash clearly was in severe pain, despite intial fears that the ankles was broken it later proved to be sever ligament damage but meant they were out of the meeting. They still qualified for the final despite only doing two of their three heats but were unable to take their place allowing James Hogg/Tony Martin a new combination to get into the final.

Diedenburgen cancelled and try out at Iwade
The speedway meeting at Diedenburgen was cancelled on 4th and 5th June due to the wet weather in Germany. This was probably good as Natasha was still struggling with her ankle after the incident at Frittenden. With several meeting coming up it was decided that Natasha and Ciara would go for a practice at Iwade speedway on 11th June to see how the ankle was when riding on the bike and also to try out some bits away from races. This went well and Tash declared herself happy with riding even though the ankle was still painful. The team were looking forward to the next round of the Super Series in two weeks time, but it was then announced that this meeting was cancelled. After some quick calls Natasha and Ciara sorted out to race at the rearranged meeting in Schwarme that was cancelled earlier in the year, a track both girls love to race at. We look forward to that meeting on 26th June.

Work commitments force withdrawal from Schwarme
Work commitments force withdrawal from Schwarme
It is with regret that the team had had to withdraw from this Sundays meeting at Schwarme. With Natasha being a contract Chef for companies supplying the catering at events June and July are busy times. Unfortunately Natasha had just been advised that she will be required to work this Saturday night and as such it will be impossible for the team to get to the races on Sunday. The club have been informed but Natasha and Ciara are more upset as this was a track they rode well at last year and Marc Wessel from the club has always treated the team well! The team would like to wish the club the best of luck for a successful meeting and to all the riders for a safe and good days racing.

    Herxheim Christi Himmelfahrt meeting
    Herxheim Christi Himmelfahrt meeting
After the day off on Tuesday it was all action again on Wednesday and Thursday at Herxheim. With training and some races on the Wednesday afternoon/evening and with it being the first visit to Herxheim for Natasha it was certainly a big learning curve. Training went well and after their first heat on Wednesday Natasha and Ciara were happy with the bike and way track riding. On the Thursday it was a lot hotter than the day before and the track was less grippy than on the Wednesday, but despite an issue with the HSM in the third heat the team still qualified well for the final in equal 4th. In the final they unfortunately got the inside gate and despite a pretty good start they got stuck on the inside at the first corner. Then despite riding hard and clearly being quicker than team in front they struggled to get through ending up 6th in the final but 5th overall. A great performance against the best b licence sidecar teams in Germany on a track they were not used to. After the meeting the team travelled home with smiles on their faces after 5 days racing in 6 days with good results all round, lessons learnt and above all a good time had by all!

    Werlte 2016
    Werlte 2016
After an enforced break from racing the Team returned to racing in the I licence class at Werlte in the floodlight sand track meeting. In a good quality entry Natasha and Ciara rode well and were mixing it in all the races beating Karl Keil in one race and Immel Schramm in two races both of whom are quality and experienced riders. Natasha and Ciara ended the meeting on equal points with Immel Schramm but with the result in the last heat deciding ties it meant the team just missed out on the pdouim ending the meeting in 4th. A creditable result which everybody was pleased with. The bike went well and as usual the Kugelmann prepared motor was flying. The team were pleased and this meeting meant the next meeting at Angenrod which would be the first round of the B Licenec masters series would not follow an 8 week period off the bike. A big thank you to everyone at the club for what was a well run and organised meeting

    Norman Southgate Memorial race Fenland
    Norman Southgate Memorial race Fenland
The team travelled to the Fenland Club meeting just outside Huntingdon with hopes of having a good day with Ciara racing in the Memorial meeting for her Granddad. Practice did not go well with the motor being used for the day, an older speedway motor, breaking a rocker arm after one lap! After a quick motor change back to one of the Kugelmann motors the team was able to get a late practice just before the racing started. The first race turned out to be one of the races of the day with a Natasha and Ciara leading from the start and having a race long battle with Mitch Godden/Paul Smith and Simon Beard/Ant Goodwin, with the team just losing out on the last lap for a close 3rd place. The next race was a start to finish win for Natasha and Ciara. The last leg before the final did not go so well after a mess up by the start marshals the Team was last away but fought hard for a 4th place just failing by about half a bike to get the 3rd place. In the final Natasha and Ciara did not make the best of starts but battled hard and were a close 4th just missing out on the podium, on a track that had changed a lot. Big congratulations to Mitch and Paul on winning the Memorial trophy in its last running. Also big thanks to the Fenland Club for a great meeting and a good track in very good weather.

    Stadskanaal ONK Sidecar round 2
After the meeting at Astra on the Sunday the team along with several other riders made the quick dash over to the Netherlands for the annual Witsun Monday meeting at Stadskanaal. Boith Natsaha and Ciara were both struggling a bit after the crash the day before but rode hard on a track that performed well. The pace was good and they team was unlucky not to make the B final having some hard heats and close finishes for slightly better places. That said all in all the team was happy to leave with 11th place on the day and the bike running well and both girls in one piece after the big off the day before.

    Ledbury Grass Track
    Ledbury Grass Track
First UK race meeting of the season for the team was at the Ledbury Club meeting on 10th April. Despite the cold weather the day was dry and the track held up well, even some dust towards the end of the meeting. There was a quality entry in the 500cc Sidecar With Former European and British Champions entered along with the rising star of the class, former solo rider Mitch Godden. Practice for the team went well with only slight changes, including putting extra layers on as it was so cold. :-) In the first race Natasha and Ciara made a great start and after a race long battle with Aaron Vale the secured an excellent 3rd place. This was a real boost in confidence and in their next heat the team again secured an good 3rd place. At this stage with one heat to go it look possible for the team to secure a place in the top 6 points scorers and progress to the final. The last heat was full of quality riders but again Natasha and Ciara made a good start and held third place for most of the race over Dan Berwick and Mark Hopkins who have qualified for the European semi final this year. After a close battle and hard racing Dan and Mark just managed to get by on the last lap, but the 4th place was enough for the team to qualify for the final. By the final the track conditions had changed and Tash ad Ciara made their worst start of the day but battled hard to get an excellent 5th in the final and 5th overall. A good result and a good day. Final Result 1st Mitch Godden/Paul Smith, 2nd Josh Goodwin/Ant Goodwin, 3rd Dave Carvill/Adam Young, 4th Dan Berwick/Mark Hopkins, 5th Natasha Bartlett/Ciara Southgate and 6th Shaun Harvey/Danny Hogg. Next meeting for the team is on 24th April at Schwarme in Germany.

Sidecar Super Series Round one. Swingfield Kent.
Sidecar Super Series Round one. Swingfield Kent.
For the first round of the Super Series the team were using the New motor from Kugelmann Tuning picked up at Herxheim. Training went well with the new motor running well but the difficult slick track with long straights and tight bends was making riding for 500 sidecar far from easy! Several teams spun it in practice but the team were happy with how training went. In the first race the team made a flying start holding off all the challengers until the last lap when Dave Carvill and Cameron Godden got past for the win with Natasha and Ciara in a great second place ahead several of the favoured teams. In race two they again made a good start and after a hard race ended with a good 4th place, race three did not go so well when after another good start Natasha and Ciara were in a good third place, when they had a crash with another team. Despite both getting back up both Tash and Ciara were shaken and bruised after the crash. They were awarded 3rd place for this race and then in the fourth leg they again got a good 4th place and after the heat were in 6th place and qualified second for the B final. With the top two places from the B final allowing qualification to the A final all was still to race for. Natasha and Ciara again made a good start and were right in the mix but missed out on the A final with a strong 4th in the B final. The A final was won by Josh Goodwin and Liam Brown. With the whole series being on points the team were happy with 11 points and 6th in the series after round one. Despite being bruised and battered Tash and Ciara were feeling good about the day. Big Thanks to Kugelmann Tuning for an awesome new motor and to Civil Engineering Safety for their sponsorship of the team for the series. Now looking forward to round 2 at Wimborne on Sunday 26th June.

    Melsungen
The team had to qualify in the top ten for the main meeting on the Sunday, this was from a very strong field of 15. The girls raced well and qualified 4th and had their first race wins as a team, and a very close second losing on the line to the eventual winner Oswald Bischoff/Mario Seibert a team who have been 3rd place European Championship in the past! On the Sunday the team again scored well with two more wins and an unfortunate mechanical issue but still made the final and ended up 4th overall. A really good meeting on a superb track in great weather!

    Parchim 2016
Natasha and Ciara rode for the first time at the Sand Track at Parchim in the B licence sidecars. On a deep but well looked after track they rode brilliantly all day unbeaten all their races, four races four wins, although the last heat was the hardest when they had to fight hard to pass Jens Voss and Jenny Plhein on the last lap. Sadly due to a nasty crash in the solo B final there was not presentation but the team was pleased with an excellent performance which set them up for the next days race at Luebbenau. A big thank you to all the club members at Parchim for a great meeting and hopefully we can be back next year.

Angenrod First round of Gespann Master series part 1.
Well what can we say about an amazing weekend at the first round of the B Licence series in Germany at the Grass Track at Angenrod. With all the top B licence teams there it was expected to be a hard meeting, but I don't think any one expected how close and fast the racing would be! Practice went well for Natasha and Ciara and the bike seemed to be handling well on a track which was quite grippy after heavy rain the day before but it was drying out quickly in the hot sunshine. With two heats on the Saturday and two more on the Sunday before the semi finals and double points final on the Sunday. With a superb start from gate two Tash and Ciara won there first race and looked to be going really well. In their second race the met one of the favourites for the series Manuel Meir and Benjamin Maier but with another good start this time from gate 3 the team powered to another win and at the end of the heats on the Saturday they were equal leaders with Kevin Hubsch and Michael Burger the favourites for the series. Thanks to RealMonti for the photo

    Diedenburgen Speedway
The team rode in a b licence sidecar support event for the Berghaupten White Tigers 1st league match against Wolfslake. The races were close and even all day long and Natasha and Ciara were involved in the race of the day with Harald Mossmer/Otmar Schwarz and Matthias Motk/Sonja End with the lead swapping on every lap. The fun did not finish at the chequered flag! As the team raced to the line with Motk/End they ran out of space and hit the air fence after the finish line, fortunately without crashing. The team got their first podium with a great third place behind the Mossmer/Schwarz and Bischoff/Seibert teams. The team was pleased with the performance and with some better starts it could have been even better. The girls were certainly the crowd favourites!!

On a very hot weekend the team raced really hard on a very big and fast track in difficult conditions. After some good racing the girls ended up 6th overall despite being excluded in the final for going of course when blinded in the dusty conditions.

    Luebbenau
    Luebbenau
Following on from the excellent meeting at Parchim, the team made the short 2.5 hour trip around Berlin to the Sand Track at Luebbenau. Arriving late on Saturday we had a quick look at the track before retiring for the night. The Sunday was a bright and sunny day and the excellent track proved very fast in all classes. This was the first time sidecars had raced at the track for over 20 years, but it proved to be a track suited to sidecars and the racing produced in the heats was fast and furious. Going into the final two teams were on maximums having not met during the heats. Natasha and Ciara had won their heats as had the team of Martin Fischer and Nadine Pierick. In the final Tash and Ciara led from the first corner and were well clear when the Wessel brothers crashed on lap two and the race was stopped. In the re run the team made their worst start of the weekend and despite trying everything and getting close to passing as they crossed the finish line they had to settle for second behind Martin and Nadine. The final and indeed all the sidecar races were received well by the large crowd and it is hoped we can return again in 2017. A big thank you to the club for an excellent race meeting and to the crowd for the great reception the team was given. Despite the second place the team was pleased with the performances over the two days, but now was the long drive back to race in Chelmsford on the Monday!!

Angenrod First round of Gespann Master series part 2
Angenrod First round of Gespann Master series part 2
The team settled down for a relaxing evening very happy with the results during the day. On the Sunday the team met the Hubsch/Burger team in their first heat and after a fast start and great close race they again won to lead the standings after three heats. The fourth leg saw them met the local favourites Oswald Bischoff and Mario Siebert in an very close race they just lost out on the last corner but with a second place they led the field after the 4 heats. In the semi-final they again had a close race with the Maier/Maier team who just got the better of Tash and Ciara. This meant going into the final the team were leaders on 13 points ahead of three teams on 11 points Bischoff/Siebert, Maier/Maier and Horn/Pfaff. With double points in the final it was all to play for, BS Racing made a good start and on lap two they were battling for the lead with Oswald/Mario when the now very slick track caught them out and they spun round collecting the Horn /Pfaff team who were behind them. Fortunately Tash and Ciara were not injured but Anreas and Stefan were after hitting the fence and we wish them a speedy recovery. With the exclusion from the rerun it was left for Bischoof/ Sibert to win the final and the overall result with Maier/Maier second and the girls in a great 3rd place. Big thank you to the club for the excellent meeting and to the organisers of the series and we are all looking forward to the next round at Melsungen this weekend. Lots of work to be done on bike first!! Thanks to HWT Photography for the excellent picture.

Melsungen Rnd 2 of B licence series
Melsungen Rnd 2 of B licence series
Round two of the B licence series was held over Saturday and Sunday 6/7th August. On the Saturday the track was very grippy and hard work but the team had a good day with two good seconds and a win leaving them in a strong position within the meeting. On the Sunday it was a much hotter day and the track dusted up quite badly and races were cut to three laps, Natasha and Ciara and a magnificent last leg just passing Manu Maier & Benjamin Maeir on the last corner. This meant the team went into the semi-finals in equal 4th place. After choosing gate 4 and make a good start in the first running of their semi-final the team were in a strong second place and looking good to qualify for the final. Unfortunately the race was stopped after an issue at the start for the Loffler team, in the rerun Natasha and Ciara made their worst start of the weekend and despite fighting hard they were unable to progress through the dust and ended up 4th and just missed the final. The final was won on a maximum by the Kevin Hubsch/ Michael Bruger team with Bischoff/Seibert second, Maeir/Maeir third and Voss/Phlenn 4th. Despite the disappointing end to the meeting the team was happy and were still in fourth in the series going into the final round in October.

Home meeting for the Team at Bad Hersfeld
Home meeting for the Team at Bad Hersfeld
With Ciara back on board after the Hertingen meeting the team travelled to the their home club track at MSC Bad Hersfeld and looked forward to a great meeting. The track for practice was in brilliant condition and the team was pleased with how the training went despite the qualification race. Then as has become the norm for the club the rain came down and did not stop and it again looked like the club would have to cancel for the third year running. But the rain stopped in time and with some sterling work by the club officials, the race officials and especial mention to Stefan Bischoff for his efforts to clear the slop of the track. The meeting went ahead and despite the conditions the racing in all the sidecar classes was very good. The solos struggled but kept going. In their first race Natasha and Ciara made a great start and led for three laps before the Hubsch/Burger team managed to push there way past, in a great race well received by the crowd. With the time moving on and the track deteriorating the referee drooped the second leg of the B liecenc sidecars which meant the girls went straight into the final on equal 3rd place points. In the first running of the final the Team made a poor start and got trapped at the back. they were fighting to get from 4th to 3rd when the Hubsch/Burger team came together with the Loffler/Fischer and the race was stopped with Kevin and Michael excluded from the re run. In the restart Natasha and Ciara made a much better start and were first into the first corner and were never headed going onto to win the final and the meeting overall at their home club track!! A great result on a very difficult track and a result well received by the vocal crowd!!

    Hertingen B licence class
    Hertingen B licence class
With Ciara unavailable for the B licence sidecar class at the International Grass Track meeting in Hertingen, the team drafted in Nadin Pierick to passenger Natasha for the day/night. The track which is very unusual with one straight much higher than the other was in very good condition and the team had a good practice with both girls getting used to riding with each other and the bike. The first race produced a great start and despite being passed by Raphael San Milan and Benedikt Zapf the team was very happy with a strong second place. In the second race the team had to gate from the unflavoured inside gate position but despite being very quick they could not get past the Sebastien Kehrer and Patrick Lepnick team and ended up 4th. This meant going into the last heat the San Milan/Zapf team had two wins, the Eibl/Starke team had a second and third, the girls had a second and fourth and the Kehrer/Lepnick team a 3rd and 4th, this meant it was all to race for. In the last heat the girls made a brilliant start and were on the back of the san Milan team for all four laps nearly passing them on the last corner but had to settle for second but this did mean they were second overall. A great result at a great meeting on a really good track. All of BS Racing would like to give a big thanks to Nadin for helping the team out and performing so well. Was also good to have team support Karen at the meeting keeping us all fed and watered throughout the meeting!

Second Round of Super Series at Lincolnshire Poacher
The second round of the Super Series was held as part of the Lincolnshire Poacher in Wainfleet. After heavy rain the day before the track was held up well in practice but as the meeting started the track started to get very choppy and dusty. in the 1st race Natasha and Ciara made a good start and despite fighting hard were passed by the Carvill/Godden team on lap 3 and ended up 4th. Their 2nd race proved very hard they had to come from dead last to make it up to 5th on a difficult track. The third leg saw the girls struggle and despite a race long battle with the Lund/Smit team they had to settle for another 4th. The last race again saw the Team battling with the Lund/Smit partnership and ended up with another fourth place. This left the team on 9th place after the heats but into the B final with the first two from this able to progress to the A final. Natasha and Ciara chose gate 1 and when the tapes went up they were off and into the first corner first and came out of the corner well ahead and looking good for the A final. Unfortunately behind them , the by now treacherous trackcaught out the James & Danny Hogg team who crashed spectacularly. With ambulance already in short numbers are many crashes the meeting was abandoined at this point. meaning the team were 9th on the day and are now lying 7th in the series after two rounds. The team was pleased t get through a very difficult meeting and are now looking forward to the next meeting in the series at Fenland this sunday. We send our best wishes to all the riders hurt on the day especially the 500 sidecar riders Jeni Cossar, Tony Martin, James Hogg, Danny Hogg, Tim Larssen. Hope to see you all back at the tracks soon.
